Incredible how fast time flies! Today marks eight years since I opened the Glitternisti Instagram account. We consider it Glitternisti’s official birthday!
Where did it all start?
Glitternisti began through a lucky accident. In December 2015, I spotted cosmetic glitter in a Swedish online store. Being a forever fan of sparkles, I ordered the glitters for a New Year’s party, but they never arrived in time.
All early winter, the glitters waited in my bathroom cabinet for the right party until May Day came along. I brought the glitters to a friend’s May Day party, and we played with them throughout the holiday. My friends were mesmerized by the glitter, and one of them even asked why I didn’t start selling it? Clearly, there was a demand. So many strangers stopped us on the street asking, “What do you have on your faces?” By that time, I had already been looking for a new product suitable for an online store, and I realized that this is it! Originally, Glitternisti was supposed to be named Glitteristi, but at the very last minute, the name changed, and for the better.
Where are we now?
What started on Instagram, this small business has been running for eight years now. A lot has happened in between. Glitternisti’s glitters have been at the Presidential Palace’s parties, over 30 festivals, and even decorated the side of a tram in Helsinki. We’ve had the pleasure of making fantastic collaborations with different brands and influencers, gained large resellers, and I, the founder of Glitternisti, have had offspring.
There have been bumps along the way. Surely, no one has forgotten the crazy coronavirus years or the EU microplastic ban that came into effect last year. However, life as an entrepreneur is often a rollercoaster, mentally, financially, and physically.
But the best part of this job is my wonderful employees and customers. I never would have believed that Glitternisti’s lifecycle would be this long!
